Governor Kibwana announces bid for Makueni Senate seat

Makueni Governor Prof Kivutha Kibwana will not quit Kenya’s political scene anytime soon. This is after he announced his entry into the race for the Makueni County Senate seat ahead of the August elections.
Speaking during a budget-making forum at Makueni Agricultural Training College in Kwa Kathoka Township, Kibwana said that he has decided to run for the Senate seat to protect the gains the country has made in the roll-out of devolution.
The governor whose second term ends in August said that he decided to run for the senatorial seat following requests from electorates who want him to represent them at the Upper House.
“In the light of many requests made by Makueni residents, I feel that I shall go for the senate seat to promote and safeguard devolution in the country,” he said.
While rooting for his senate bid, the governor said that he is passionate about devolution and that Makueni county will benefit from his wide network of donors and national government should he be elected as a senator on August 9.
Following his announcement, Prof Kibwana now becomes the third governor to declare interest in senate position after Uasin Gishu’s Jackson Mandago and Elgeyo Marakwet’s Alex Tolgos.
