Governor Abdullahi says Raila has moral authority to help save Kenya

Council of Governors Chairperson and Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi has thrown his weight behind Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga’s proposal for the formation of a national conclave to chart a new path through collective civic engagement.

Speaking during an interview with a local TV station on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, Governor Abdullahi described Raila as a uniquely positioned statesman capable of offering honest solutions to Kenya’s governance challenges.

Raila’s support

He further noted that despite the country’s heavily ethnicised political landscape, Raila Odinga commands organic support across multiple regions and has consistently played a stabilising role during national crises.

“As for the conclave, I think Raila has the moral authority. In spite of our ethnically mobilised special-purpose vehicle parties that we have, ODM has existed for over 20 years. Raila has organic support across a number of regions in this country. He has always come to the aid of the country in stabilising the government,” he said.

“I believe being where he is, he probably is one of the few people who can say it as it is, who doesn’t have much to lose and who has earned the moral authority to tell us how we can save Kenya,” he added.

Implementation of NADCO report

Abdullahi’s remarks come hours after President William Ruto and Raila announced the formation of a five-member committee to oversee the implementation of the NADCO report and a 10-point national agenda.

The committee, according to a joint statement issued on August 6, 2025, will be responsible for executing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between UDA and ODM on March 7, 2025.

The MoU set out to foster national cohesion and inclusive prosperity by addressing longstanding challenges to Kenya’s governance and nationhood.
