Gatundu North MP Njoroge Kururia says CS Wandayi is a fake expert
By Mabonga Makhanu, May 19, 2026Gatudu North MP Njoroge Kururia has launched a scathing attack on Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi, terming him a “fake expert”.
In a statement shared on his social media pages on Tuesday, the outspoken legislator went full throttle on Wandayi, who was among the four individuals presented by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) as experts when they joined President William Ruto’s Cabinet in 2024.
Kururia accused the Energy CS of failing to solve the ongoing energy crisis in the country, which has sparked protests in different parts of Kenya over the rising fuel prices.
The Gatundu North MP further claimed that Wandayi’s handling of the docket was politically damaging to President William Ruto, arguing that the crisis was leaving the head of state embarrassed and costing him support across the country.
His remarks come at a time when the government is facing mounting pressure from Kenyans over the increasing cost of living and soaring fuel prices that have triggered demonstrations in several towns.
“FAKE EXPERT. Ameshindwa na kazi ya Petroleum.” Kazi yake ni kuharibia William Samoei Ruto kazi, jina, kura na Serikali. ” Njoroge said.

Wandayi under siege?
This comes at a time when Opiyo Wandayi appears to be a man under siege. Several stakeholders from the transport sector are on his neck, demanding a solution to the ongoing fuel crisis, with matatu operators boycotting their activities until the fuel situation is resolved.
This saw him, together with Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi, Roads and Transport CS Davis Chirchir, and Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, hold a meeting with stakeholders from the transport sector, which did not bear fruit.

During the meeting, Wandayi reportedly proposed that the price of diesel be reduced by KSh10, while kerosene would be increased by KSh38, a proposal that transport sector associations rejected.
There are scheduled further meetings aimed at trying to reach a common ground on the country’s fuel situation.
Matatu strike
Major matatu companies such as Super Metro and Enabled Metro Trans have all grounded their activities and have stood in solidarity with their associations until the stand-off is quelled. This has seen Kenyans, especially those living around the city, who commute to work daily with nothing to do but wait until the stalemate is resolved.
