Gachagua starts extensive consultation with grassroots opinion leaders
By Emmanuel Rono, June 16, 2026Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has announced the start of his extensive consultations with grassroots opinion leaders at his Wamunyoro residence, saying the process is aimed at shaping the liberation of the country ahead of the 2027 elections.
In a statement on his Facebook page on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, Gachagua said his governance framework for the “next administration” will be anchored on listening to citizens, insisting that sovereignty lies with the people as provided for in the Constitution.

“I have started extensive consultations with grassroots opinion leaders on the liberation of our country as promised and advised by the people,” Gachagua said.
Initial engagement
He revealed that his initial engagement was with opinion leaders from Nyandarua County, whom he described as the first group in a series of planned meetings across the country.

“Our Governance module in the next administration is strongly anchored on listening to the people, whom our constitution vests Supremacy onto,” Gachagua stated.
Gachagua said he valued the views shared during the Nyandarua meeting, noting that the input will guide his broader political engagements moving forward.
“I am grateful to opinion leaders from Nyandarua County and greatly value their insights and contributions; this was the first team I have engaged and I am delighted,” he said.
He further assured supporters that the consultations will continue, emphasising that he will be guided by the views of grassroots leaders as he expands the engagements to other regions.
“Extensive consultations continue. God Bless Nyandarua, God Bless Kenya,” he concluded.
45 days off rallies
Gachagua has announced that he will not attend any political rallies for the next 45 days as he focuses on legal consultations and internal political planning following the High Court judgment that upheld his impeachment but awarded him Ksh50 million for violation of his right to a fair hearing.
Speaking during a press conference in Nairobi on Tuesday, 9 June 2026, Gachagua said he will use the period to engage his political base, legal team, and advisers on his next course of action, including his appeal at the Court of Appeal.

He said he respects the judiciary but strongly disagrees with the ruling.
Gachagua said the consultations will focus on political strategy, leadership structure, and the selection of a united presidential candidate under the United Alternative Government plan. He said he will engage political leaders, professionals and community representatives on the framework for a joint presidential candidate to challenge President William Ruto in 2027.
“From Monday, I’ll come in Wamunyoro village for 45 days to start exhaustive and extensive consultations with my supporters and opinion leaders and stakeholders on the formula of identifying a single presidential candidate to face President William Ruto,” Gachagua declared.
