Gachagua: Kenya must be better place to live and invest

By , March 1, 2026

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has renewed his call for change, saying Kenya must become a better place for its citizens to live and invest.

In a post shared on X on March 1, 2026, he underscored the urgency of the political moment. “We do not have the luxury of time. The people of Kenya are determined to reclaim their country and restore its dignity,” he stated.

His remarks followed a church service at AIPCA Nyandarua North Diocese in Shamata, Nyandarua County, and a subsequent public engagement at Shamata shopping centre.

Gachagua was joined by Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, former National Assembly Speaker JB Muturi, and DAP-Kenya leader Eugene Wamalwa.

Residents gathered to listen as the leaders addressed governance and economic concerns.

Opposition steps up grassroots engagements

“Our commitment to making Kenya a better place to live and invest remains resolute,” Gachagua affirmed during the engagement. He linked the opposition’s campaign to concerns over the cost of living, public debt, agriculture, and youth employment.

The Nyandarua visit follows a series of tours by opposition leaders across the country. Between February 27 and 28, 2026, the team held rallies in Nakuru County, including in Maai Mahiu, Naivasha, Gilgil, Nakuru town and Heshima in Bahati Constituency. The meetings focused on economic empowerment, governance, and national unity.

Earlier, from February 23 to 25, the leaders toured Kisii and Nyamira counties, where they addressed residents on similar issues. Calls for unity among opposition parties ahead of the 2027 General Election have featured prominently in their messaging.

Focus on 2027

Gachagua said reforms would be prioritised if the opposition forms the next government, outlining plans aimed at reviving agriculture, strengthening education, improving infrastructure and supporting citizen welfare. He maintained that decisive leadership would be required to address current challenges.

Gachagua has also framed the opposition’s push ahead of the 2027 elections as a fight for the people, placing citizens at the centre of political change.

“Our ultimate victory in the quest for the liberation of the people of Kenya is about The People!” He emphasised that the power of the ballot is the key tool for citizens to reclaim their voice and influence the country’s direction.
