Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Monday, September 16, 2024, joined President William Ruto for a meeting with National Government Administrative Officers (NGAOs) drawn from Nairobi, a day after he skipped the head of state’s event in Nyeri.

DP Gachagua in a statement shared via his official social media accounts announced that he had joined President Ruto for the meeting that was held at Kenya School of Government, Lower Kabete, in Nairobi county.

“Today, I joined President Williams Ruto for a meeting with the National Government Adminstration Officers (NGAOs) including village elders, assistants chiefs, chiefs and senior officers from Nairobi County at Kenya School of Government, Lower Kabete, Nairobi County. The officers have played a big role in the fight against illicit brews and drug abuse and delivering on other important assignments in the city,” Gachagua stated.

President Ruto in a statement issued via his official social media accounts stated that he had met the administration officers from Nairobi after adopting a multi-agency approach in the implementation of the recently-launched Climate WorX programme.

According to President Ruto, working with administrative officers will enhance the government’s efforts to restore the country’s environmental ecosystem.

“The adoption of a multi-agency approach in the implementation of the Climate WorX programme will enhance our efforts to restore our environmental ecosystem.

“The goal is to ensure that Nairobi, which is not only our capital city, but also the world’s environmental headquarters, remains green, clean and leads the way in conservation. During a meeting with National Government Administration Officers from Nairobi County, Kenya School of Government in Lower Kabete,” President Ruto said.

Moses Kuria warns Gachagua

Their meeting comes just a day after DP Gachagua was a no-show at an event that was graced by President Ruto in Nyeri County.

After Gachagua skipped the event, Senior Economic Advisor at State House Moses Kuria took to his official social media accounts to threaten that it was the last time a seat reserved for the second in command was going to remain vacant.

This prompted Kiambu Senator Karungo Thang’wa to explain why DP Gachagua did not accompany President Ruto to Nyeri on Sunday, September 15, 2024.

In a statement, the Senator detailed that the DP could not make it to the African Independent Pentecostal Church of Africa (AIPCA), Central West Archdiocese, Nyeri County, where his boss joined congregants for a service and planned church expansion push.

According to the Senator, Gachagua stepped in to represent Ruto at Our Lady of Sorrows Baricho Catholic Parish in Ndia, Kirinyaga Count for the Centenary celebrations.

Gachagua also explained that he did not want to leave the celebrations midway to join his boss in Nyeri.

“I was hurrying to attend another church in Nyeri then I saw there was a cake. I wondered whether an event without eating a cake is complete. So I decided to wait for the cake,” Gachagua explained.
