Gachagua challenges Murkomen to arrest him, vows his supporters will defend him

Speaking during a roadside rally in Embu County, the former Deputy President declared that he cannot be intimidated and will continue speaking out boldly. He warned that if the authorities attempt to arrest him, his supporters will react and defend him.
“Kama wewe ni mwanamume kamili, si ukuje unikamate? Mimi niko na jeshi… Wewe Ruto umetujaribu for too long,” he said.
Loosely translated as “If you are a real man, why don’t you come and arrest me? I have an army behind me… Ruto, you have tested us for too long.”)
Gachagua Murkomen’s war of words
The defiant statements from the former Deputy President follow a sharp warning from Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, who accused Gachagua of ethnic bigotry and inciting public violence under the guise of political rallies.
Murkomen cautioned that security agencies have been instructed to closely monitor Gachagua’s public utterances, warning that the government will not hesitate to arrest and prosecute him if his speeches continue to compromise national security or provoke ethnic tensions.
Addressing Gachagua’s claims of mobilising supporters to protect opposition votes and confront law enforcement, the Interior CS accused the DCP leader of attempting to assemble illegal groups to destabilise the country ahead of the 2027 elections.
Murkomen threatens Gachagua
Murkomen firmly dismissed Gachagua’s political rhetoric, maintaining that no individual—regardless of former office or political standing—is above the law or immune to arrest if they organise lawlessness or threaten state officers.
Reaffirming the government’s stance, Murkomen warned that security organs would move ruthlessly against any political figures or organised groups attempting to disrupt public order.
He urged politicians to refrain from reckless, inflammatory language, adding that the state remains fully prepared to take decisive legal action against anyone seeking to intimidate public servants or incite citizens against constituted authority.
Gachagua warns Murkomen
On the other hand, Gachagua has also cautioned Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen against profiling Mt Kenya youth as members of the banned Mungiki sect.
Addressing the matter, the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader asserted that the local community would not passively watch state-backed goons disrupt political or electoral processes. He emphasised that residents would take necessary measures to protect themselves, noting that self-defence is a right protected under the law.
