Fred Gumo holds talks with Osotsi, Amisi, and Sifuna amid ODM friction
By Mabonga Makhanu, December 26, 2025Former Westlands MP Fred Gumo has held talks with a section of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leaders led by its Secretary General Edwin Sifuna at his Endebess home in Trans Nzoia County.
Other participants during the high-level meeting were ODM Deputy Party Leader and Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, Saboti MP Caleb Amisi, and Likuyani MP Innocent Mugabe.
Edwin Sifuna took to his social media on Friday, December 26, 2025, to confirm the sit-down, stating that they had been invited by the veteran politician.
Sifuna noted that Gumo invited them for a consultative meeting at his farm, where they were enriched by Gumo’s long experience in politics and resolved to forge forward stronger.

“Mzee Fred Gumo invited ODM Deputy Party Leader Senator Godfrey Osotsi, Saboti MP Hon. Caleb Amisi, and me for a consultative meeting at his farm in Endebess, Trans Nzoia, this afternoon. We were enriched by Mzee Gumo’s long experience in politics and will forge forward stronger.” Sifuna stated
The ODM rebels
This comes at a time when Sifuna, Osotsi, and Caleb Amisi are opposed to the direction in which the ODM party is taking. Both Sifuna and Caleb Amisi have in the past stated that if ODM supports President William Ruto in 2027, they will ditch the party.
Osotsi, on his part, is firmly behind Sifuna, with both leaders opposed to the political direction in which the Orange party is taking and all adamant that it should not support Ruto in 2027.

Osotsi, while speaking during a church service, stated that for ODM to move forward and for meaningful progress to be made, the party must allow Sifuna and Oburu to speak on behalf of the party, and not everyone.
Wandayi’s take
This position was opposed by Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi, who stated that according to the ODM constitution, it is only the party leader who is supposed to make decisions, especially those involving coalitions and whom to support.
He added that this prerogative is not extended to anybody else and that the party leader can only inform the party’s National Executive Committee of his decision.
Although details of the meeting remain scarce, Fred Gumo’s contribution to Kenyan politics cannot be underestimated. Together with Raila Odinga, he foresaw reconciliation talks that saw Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja saved from an impending impeachment, where Nairobi Members of County Assembly were seeking to remove him from office.

This also comes two days before the body of the late Cyrus Jirongo is expected to be airlifted to his Kitale home as part of his funeral arrangements, which Gumo himself has been part and parcel of and is among the people organising the funeral arrangements.
