Former DP Gachagua meets Abagusii community, vows to fight for revolution

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has held a farewell dinner with the Abagusii community in Texas, where he expressed gratitude for their hospitality and used the opportunity to reflect on Kenya’s political and economic future.

Taking to his official X account on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, Gachagua thanked the Kenyan diaspora leaders from the Abagusii community for hosting him and engaging in deep conversations about the nation’s state of current affairs. Gachagua has been vocal, criticising the government over continued abductions, police brutality against the opposition, and failure to handle recent demonstrations that rocked the country constitutionally.

“Thank you so much for your hospitality and kindness to the leaders of the Abagusii community living and working in Texas,” he said. “On behalf of the Abagusii community, you hosted me for a farewell dinner on my last day in Texas,” Gachagua stated.

Areas of discussion

During the dinner, the Democracy for the Citizens Party leader noted that discussions centred on the political and economic challenges Kenya faces, as well as the need for unity and reform. Gachagua is currently campaigning against the current regime ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“We discussed the state of our nation, Kenya, and the journey to liberate our nation from dictatorship, state capture, economic mismanagement, and abuse of the rule of law,” he added.

The former Deputy President, who has recently adopted a more vocal stance on governance issues, has framed his US tour as a platform to rally the Kenyan diaspora around democratic ideals and the protection of constitutionalism. His remarks come at a time when the country is navigating a tense political climate following mass protests and growing dissent over economic policies.

Gachagua, once a key figure in the Kenya Kwanza administration, has in recent months distanced himself from some of the government’s actions, decrying what he terms a betrayal of the promises made to Kenyans during the 2022 general election campaign.

His tour of the United States has seen him interact with various Kenyan communities, where he has been calling for inclusive governance and urging Kenyans in the diaspora to remain engaged in national discourse.

Political analysts view Gachagua’s continued engagement with the diaspora as a move to consolidate his political base and rebrand himself ahead of future political realignments after falling out with President William Ruto and his administration.

As he wrapped up his Texas visit, Gachagua reiterated his commitment to standing with Kenyans who seek accountability, fairness, and economic justice.

“I leave Texas encouraged and inspired by the passion our people have for a better Kenya,” he concluded.

Gachagua is expected to continue his US engagements in other states, where he is set to meet more Kenyan diaspora groups and civic leaders.
