Ekuru Aukot blames UDA over cracks in ODM

By , February 5, 2026

Presidential hopeful and Thirdway Alliance Party leader Ekuru Aukot has fingered the ruling party, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), over what he terms as causing cracks within the Orange Democratic Movement party.

Speaking to a local TV station on Thursday, February 4, 2026, Aukot has called out the ruling party for meddling with the affairs of the ODM Party. Aukot has said that the ODM Party has lost its ideology. He has added that Kenyan politics has been commercialised and is about personal interests.

“Kenyan politics has been commercialised. It’s about the survival of the people in leadership and not about the ordinary Kenyans. ODM is indeed cracking, you know, and the obvious reason is that it has no ideologies as a party.”

“The ideology is about the person of Raila Odinga, but without that, you cannot sustain it, and that is why ODM is being bought by UDA, and the business which is going on is, ‘Who can we compromise in ODM?’ There are so many orphans in ODM,” Aukot said.

Thinking beyond tribal politics

The Thirdway Alliance Party Leader has highlighted the need for the country’s readiness to think beyond tribal coalitions. He has said that coalitions need to be agreed upon as stipulated in the Coalition of Political Parties Act.

He has stated that the constitution does not allow one to be a member of two political parties, as is the case with ODM party members who are also members of the Azimio coalition, which is registered as a political party with the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties.

Aukot’s sentiments have come at a period when ODM is facing divisions following the death of Raila Odinga in October 2025. Oburu Oginga assumed the role of acting party leader but has faced opposition from a section of the party members.
