Mutua accuses Azimio, Registrar of political parties of denying him copy of coalition agreement

Machakos County Governor and Maendeleo Chap Chap party leader Alfred Mutua has on Friday, May 6, 2022, accused the registrar of political parties and the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition party of denying his outfit a copy of the Azimio coalition agreement that was signed by over 26 political parties that constitute the political formation.

“The registrar of political parties (ORPP) and Azimio coalition party have refused to give us a copy of the Azimio coalition agreement deposited with the ORPP we signed to form the coalition,” Mutua said.

Mutua to move to court

Mutua, who had written to the registrar of political parties requesting to withdraw from the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition party, stated that his party will now move to court to demand a copy of the document in contention.

The county chief wondered why members of the Azimio coalition party have to move to court to get access to a document that bides them together with other political outfits.

“It is unfortunate that we are in a coalition relationship whose members have to go to court to get what is their automatic right. What games are they playing?” he posed.

The county head further stated that Maendeleo Chap Chap party members will meet and deliberate on the way forward. He added that his party will also look into the alleged underhand plans by their partners to zone out their party aspirants.

Mutua noted that his party will not accept plans to deny aspirants in parties in Azimio their democratic opportunity to be on the ballot.
