Didmus laments over friends demanding cars and Ksh20M to support his gubernatorial bid

Kimilili Member of Parliament (MP) Didmus Barasa has exposed a scheme by some of his allies demanding monetary favours to throw their weight behind his gubernatorial ambition.

Speaking on Saturday, July 12, 2025, the vocal legislator revealed that some undisclosed allies were demanding north of Ksh20 million to mobilise support for his bid to succeed incumbent Governor Ken Lusaka in the 2027 polls.

The lawmaker who was elected on the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket added that the allies were also demanding high-end vehicles to pledge their allegiance to his ambitious gubernatorial bid.

Wale wapinzani wangu ambao wakutaka mi nisiendelee na hii safari yangu walifika mahali wakanipatia vikwazo. Unapata mtu rafiki yako anakuambia wewe Didmus ndio nikuunge mkono uwe gavana wa Bungoma nataka uninunulie gari, nataka unipatie sijui milioni ishirini, sijui milioni kumi na tano,” Barasa stated.

Mi nikaambia uyo mtu wewe pia unatafuta kura, we pia ulipigiwa kura… sasa mi ile pesa niko wacha nisaidie wananchi wa kawaida,” he added while dismissing their demands.

Which is loosely translated to “Some of my opponents reached a point and started introducing obstacles. You find your friend saying that for them to support me to be the next Bungoma governor, I must buy for them a car, or I give them Ksh20 million or Ksh15 million,” he stated.

“I told that person that he is seeking votes and that the money I have, I will only use it to help the normal citizens,” he added while dismissing their demands.

Confidence in clinching the seat

Didmus Barasa has been traversing Bungoma County in a bid to convince the voters to support his bid. He has on more than one occasion expressed confidence that he will clinch the seat and lead the county.

In January 2025, the UDA legislator asserted that his record on development and leadership are enough credentials for the position.

“I am asking for your support that we walk together in 2027. We have someone who says it’s too early to talk of 2027 claiming you never know if you’ll reach that far,” Barasa said

“For those who hold such I say that up to them. For me, in 2027, I will be there by the grace of God. I will even have added a few kilograms. The bible says that the desires of your heart is what God grants to a man,” he added, dismissing those terming his bid a premature exercise.
