Deputy President scoffs at Azimio leader ICC threats
By Harrison.Kivisu, April 20, 2023Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has laughed off threats by Azimio leader Raila Odinga to drag him to the International Criminal Court (ICC) for crimes against humanity charges.
He rubbished the assertions by Raila that his name has been forwarded to the ICC to be charged for crimes against humanity terming it a futile exercise.
He maintained that he has committed no crime to warrant his prosecution at The Hague based court, but hastened to add that he is ready to pay any price to defend his boss William Ruto.
Speaking in Mombasa during the official opening of a Deputy Governors’ consultative forum, he said defending Ruto does not constitute a crime against humanity.
“Azimio is threatening to report me at The Hague, I don’t know how defending your boss can be a crime against humanity. They have been in the streets for many years and they don’t even think well. How can defending your boss and his programs become a crime to be reported at The Hague,” he posed.
Bite the bullet
Raila, during a rally at Kamukunji grounds in Nairobi on Sunday alleged that Gachagua sent police officers who he claimed fired 11 bullets at his car during mass protests on March 27 and 30.
The DP said nobody will stand between him and his boss, stating that he is ready to bite the bullet in defence of his boss.
Likewise, he asked deputy governors to defend their county bosses against intimidation and play their role as principal assistants.
He urged them to focus on service delivery.
