DCP suffers blow as Ol Kalou runner-up defects to UDA

By , May 30, 2026

The runner-up in the recently concluded Democracy for Citizens (DCP) Ol Kalou Constituency party primaries has decamped to the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), citing unfairness in the nomination process.

While speaking during a meeting in Nakuru attended by Tourism Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano, Energy Principal Secretary Alex Wachira, and Laikipia East MP Mwangi Kiunjuri on Friday, May 28, 2026, Paul Waiganjo, a musician-turned-politician, intimated that the recent DCP by-election nominations were a sham.

He claimed that people were ferried from neighbouring constituencies such as Kipipiri and Nakuru to vote for what he termed the party’s preferred candidate.

He further stated that the party leader Rigathi Gachagua did not live up to his promise of conducting free and fair nominations. According to him, there were individuals described as security personnel who had been dispatched before the polling day to urge constituents to throw their weight behind Sammy Kamau Ngotho, who eventually emerged victorious.

CS Miano’s statement

Rebecca Miano, who is among the leaders deployed by the UDA party to campaign for its candidate, Samuel Muchina, in the upcoming Ol Kalou by-election, has penned a heartfelt message welcoming Paul Waiganjo to the party.

“A winning team is built on shared convictions and a relentless focus on progress. Delighted to warmly welcome our brother, Paul Waiganjo, to the fold as we consolidate our vision for the people of Ol Kalou.”

Waiganjo brings immense grassroots energy, a deep connection to the community, and a shared dedication to the transformation of Nyandarua County.”
