‘Ruto doesn’t have keys to IEBC servers, go open them yourself’ – Murkomen tells Raila

By , April 21, 2023

Cabinet Secretaries Moses Kuria (Investments, Trade & Industry) and Kipchumba Murkomen (Transport, and Public Works) now say opposition leader Raila Odinga is free to open the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) servers he has been asking the Kenya Kwanza government to open.

Murkomen and Kuria insisted that President William Ruto is not the custodian of the server keys and that the opposition leader was free to access the system once and when he is ready.

The CSs stressed that Odinga was not after having the servers opened but was agitating for inclusion in government – a scheme they said will not be allowed to succeed saying the Kenya Kwanza government won the 2022 elections fairly.

They made the statements in the wake of intensified calls by the Azimio la Umoja troops to have the servers opened to ascertain who won the presidential elections which they claim were marred with irregularities and as a result, their victory was stolen.

Murkomen queried why Odinga never demanded to have the servers opened after their handshake with former President Uhuru Kenyatta if keys to the servers are held by a sitting president.

“If Raila thinks IEBC servers can only be opened by the President, why didn’t he fail to push for their opening when he entered a handshake pact with his brother Uhuru? President Ruto is not and has never been the custodian nor does he have the keys to IEBC servers. Raila is very free to have the system when he wants to. If he requires an escort to get the servers opened, that will be arranged but we know his mission is beyond the servers,” Murkomen stated.

Murkomen and Kuria spoke at Mang’u village in Gatundu North during the launch of the constituency’s Ksh48 million bursary funds.

Other leaders present included Elijah Njoroge (Gatundu North), George Koimburi (Juja), Geoffrey Mulanya (Nabale), John Kaguchia (Mukurweini) and former MPs Esther Gathogo (Ruiru) and Kigo Njenga (Gatundu North).

On his part, Kuria noted with concern that the opposition chief is determined to frustrate the Kenya Kwanza government saying that he has already started changing goalposts by making impracticable demands in the bipartisan talks that were extended to the opposition.

He stated that opposition leaders’ pursuit to get into the government will be futile as they will not allow a coalition government.

Kuria noted that the Kenya Kwanza government has only been in office for eight months and should be allowed more time to prove its capability by delivering its promises to Kenyans.

“The government cannot just be split. We will not allow them to get any slice of the bread because we believe that is what they are up to,” Kuria said.

On his side MP Kaguchia accused the opposition of working tirelessly to derail the government from its development agenda so as to discredit it as a failed regime.

“Ruto and Gachagua must not give in to Raila’s demands and should focus on delivering the promises we made to Kenyans. The opposition should not be allowed to sustain their threats and intimidation,” Kaguchia stated.
