Crowd pushes Kalonzo to drop Cecily Mbarire opposition invite
By Luke Oluoch, October 11, 2025Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka was on Saturday, October 11, 2025, compelled to rescind his proposal to invite Embu Governor Cecily Mbaririe to the united opposition.
Speaking in Embu County, Kalonzo was forced to end his overture to the area governor as residents turned down his offer to extend an olive branch to the UDA national chairperson.
The former Deputy President adopted a conciliatory tone, in contrast to many speakers who had criticized the governor for her ties to Kenya Kwanza and President Ruto, upon taking the podium.
According to Kalonzo, Mbarire lacked the confidence of the people in government, prompting his offer to join the government.
No confidence
“We know that UDA has no confidence in her. I want to take this opportunity to ask her kama anaona huko kumeumana arudi nyumbani na akae na wengine,” Kalonzo said.
His offer was, however, curtailed by an unresponsive crowd, which seemed to turn down the former VP’s proposal.
Sensing the mood, Kalonzo took a quick detour.
“Hamtaki yeye?Wangapi wanasema aende aende? Hio ni haki yenu. Ni haki yenu,” Kalonzo acquiesced.
Kalonzo, who has been the subject of unending overtures from a section of politicians allied with the government trying to persuade him to join the government, reiterated his loyalty to the opposition.
“I am not Gideon Moi. I have told them not to bother me. If they want to speak to me, let them speak to Riggy G or (Martha) Karua. We have them as the spokespersons,” he added.
Onslaught against Mbarire
Meanwhile, speaking in Runyenjes, Gachagua joined the onslaught against the governor, placing her at the centre of plans to disrupt their meeting.
“Yeye ni msaliti au si msaliti?. Mimi naskia aibu nikiwa hapa mlimani eti kiongozi anaweza pewa pesa atumiwe kupiga watu mawe,” he decried,
“Hii aibu viongozi wetu wametuwekea mlimani ya kuchukua pesa kwa Kasongo na kupanga fujo mlimani hao watu wote siku ya kura ikifika tuamke mapema tupeleke hao nyumbani,” he added.
The former DP, instead, took the podium to heap praise on Manyatta MP Gitonga Mukunji, praising him as a fearless leader who had vowed to stand firm against oppression from Ruto’s government.
