Caleb Amisi: Raila’s death left ODM with people who lack leadership skills
By Joel Masibo, November 17, 2025Saboti Member of Parliament (MP) Caleb Amisis has argued that the death of the late Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga has left the political outfit in the hands of people who lack leadership skills.
Speaking on a local TV station on Monday, November 17, 2025, Amisi said the push and pull and disagreements among ODM members will not let Raila Odinga rest in peace, further stating that the current leadership at the helm of ODM is unconstitutional.
The legislator has stated that the appointment of Raila Odinga’s senior brother, Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga, as ODM’s party leader is against the constitutional requirements, further adding that a national delegates conference should have been held to decide on the move concerning the party’s leadership in Raila’s absence.
ODM in bad hands
”What is happening in ODM is not allowing Raila to rest in peace, as the party has been left in the hands of people who lack leadership. Oburu Odinga is the party leader unconstitutionally. A conference of national delegates was supposed to be held,” Caleb Amisis said.
Touching on the just concluded ODM@20 celebrations in Mombasa meant to mark 20 years of its existence, Caleb Amisis noted that the event should have been postponed to allow Kenyans mourn the departed former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

”The ODM at 20 celebrations and Oburu Odinga’s appointment as party leader should have been postponed. The timing was wrong, because Kenyans are still mourning Raila,” he said.
On his view regarding the newly found working formula between ODM and the ruling party, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) in a broad-based government formation, Caleb Amisi said: ”We warned the ODM party about the broad-based government because only a fool repeats the same thing and expects different results. It is not the same as Kibaki’s coalition or Uhuru’s handshake, because those had structured negotiations.”
Kaluma backs Oburu
Meanwhile, Caleb Amisi’s assertions come when Homay Bay Town Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Kaluma has claimed that Oburu Odinga, in his capacity as ODM party leader, has proven his doubters wrong.
The ODM’s National Executive Committee handed over the mantle to the Siaya County Senator in October 2025, shortly after the death of the party’s long-serving leader, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
