Caleb Amisi: I was removed from my ODM position via WhatsApp message
By Kenneth Mwenda, February 12, 2026Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has accused the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) of sidelining him through a “coup” after he was removed as the party’s Deputy Organising Secretary via a WhatsApp message.
Amisi made the claim during a press conference in Nairobi on Thursday, February 12, 2026, alongside Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and other ODM members. Sifuna had recently faced his own removal as Secretary General, which he described as illegal and unconstitutional.
“I am the second casualty of this coup. I was removed as the Deputy Organising Secretary via a WhatsApp message,” Amisi said.
He said the move violated the ODM constitution, which requires the National Executive Committee (NEC) to pass a resolution before removing any NEC member.
“You know very well that our party constitution, to remove a NEC member, it must be a resolution of the NEC. I was removed even before the NEC met,” he added.
Amisi highlighted his record in the party, noting that he has been elected twice as an MP on an ODM ticket from a region that has historically been hostile to the party.
“I’m an elected member of parliament on ODM ticket twice from a very volatile, extremely non-ODM zone. From Westlands to the border of Malaba, the only member of parliament on ODM is Caleb Amisi,” he said.
The MP described the developments as painful for those who helped build the party.
“This is a sad day. There is a time when we lost our election in 2013 and Baba declared democracy is on trial. The ODM democracy is indeed on trial,” he said.

Amisi vows to resist
He also recalled the struggles party supporters have faced.
“It is a sad moment for us to gather here as people who believe in the ideals, ideologies, and philosophies of Baba Raila Odinga to complain about the very party that we have built through blood and sweat. It is indeed a sad moment for Kenyans,” Amisi stated.
Amisi warned that he and his colleagues would resist what he called a coup in the party.
“We are here to declare war. There is a coup that has happened in ODM,” he said.
He contrasted the current situation with past punishments for coup plotters.
“In olden days, coup plotters were supposed to have been stoned to death. Coup plotters were stoned to death. But we are in a democracy. That’s why the SGG is going to use the right legal channel,” he explained, seemingly referring to Sifuna or another party figure pursuing legal action.
The Saboti MP said he has instructed lawyers to challenge the decision through the party’s internal dispute mechanisms.
“I’ve also instructed my lawyers to use the right internal dispute mechanism, failure to which we’ll also go up the ladder through the justice channel,” he said.
Amisi called on ODM supporters to remain calm.
“We want to urge all our supporters to remain calm, resilient. We are going to the people,” he said.
He also reaffirmed his commitment to Raila Odinga’s principles and legacy.
“We are going to continuously sell the ideals of Baba Raila Odinga. He is an institution. You can kill ODM, but you can never kill the ideology, the ideals of Baba Raila Odinga. And that is what we are going to stand for,” Amisi declared.
He further promised to protect the party and Raila’s name.
“We are there. We’ll protect ODM. We’ll protect what Baba stood for. He is an institution. Baba’s name will never be erased in the political limelight of our country,” he added.
Amisi drew comparisons between Raila and global figures.
“Baba stands in the steps of Kennedy of the U.S. Baba’s name is that of Mandela of South Africa. That for you to become a president of Kenya, you will never become a president of Kenya without the name Raila Odinga in your campaign speech. We will protect that name with all that we have,” he concluded.
