Caleb Amisi: I can never get an opportunity to speak in Parliament with Wetang’ula as speaker

By , October 27, 2025

Saboti Member of Parliament (MP)  Caleb Amisi has claimed that National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula deliberately denies him the opportunity to speak in Parliament, citing a long-standing grudge dating back to the 2017 campaign period.

Speaking during an interview with Obinna TV Extra on Monday, October 27, 2025, Amisi recalled a political rally in Kitale during the NASA coalition era where tensions flared between ODM and Ford Kenya supporters.

According to the legislator, Wetang’ula, who was then championing Ford Kenya within the coalition, had attempted to sideline him from addressing the crowd.

“There’s a time he came to Kitale with the NASA brigade, and Wetang’ula told Raila there is no ODM in Trans Nzoia,  that NASA would support Ford Kenya. Since I was in ODM, he put the Ford Kenya candidate to speak. But I stood right in front of him because they wanted to ignore me,” Amisi said.

The Saboti MP said his defiance was met with overwhelming support from the crowd, who began chanting his name, forcing Wetang’ula to allow him to speak before the rally could continue.

“The crowd went wild. They started shouting my name the way people hail Babu Owino. Wetang’ula had to stop and let me speak for the rally to continue. Aibu gani hii! To date, he has never forgiven me,” Amisi said.

Amisi claimed that since then, Wetang’ula has been visibly uncomfortable with him, especially in Parliament, where, despite being listed on the Order Paper, he is allegedly overlooked whenever he raises his hand to contribute.

“He looks at me over his spectacles every time I raise my hand, pretending not to see me. So I can never get an opportunity to speak in Parliament for as long as Wetang’ula is there. If it’s a statement or question, I’m on the Order Paper. But when I just want to contribute to a motion, his eyes just pass over me like I don’t exist,” he added.

The outspoken MP further revealed that after the incident in Kitale, he followed ODM leader Raila Odinga to the nearby airstrip to complain about the snub.

“I followed Raila to the small airstrip in Kitale, complaining, ‘Now what are you people doing to me? I am an ODM person,’” Amisi recalled. “Then I heard him telling Junet, ‘Hapa tutanyang’anywa’ (We’ll be shortchanged here). That’s when I realized most people lie to Baba a lot.
