Caleb Amisi camps in Ol Kalou to campaign for People’s Renaissance Movement candidate
By Mustafa Juma, June 7, 2026Saboti Member of Parliament (MP) Caleb Amisi has intensified grassroots political mobilisation in Nyandarua County after joining residents in Ol Kalou to campaign for a young parliamentary aspirant under the People’s Renaissance Movement (PRM) ahead of the July 16, 2026, mini-polls.
Amisi attended a church service at PCEA Mirangine before embarking on a meet-the-people tour across the constituency in support of Timothy Kamau Kariuki, a youthful aspirant seeking the Ol Kalou parliamentary seat.
Taking to his official X account on Sunday, June 7, 2026, the outspoken MP said he was inspired by the candidate’s humble campaign approach, particularly his reported use of a donkey during campaign activities, a story Amisi said mirrors his own early political journey.
“After church service, we will carry out a meet-the-people exercise within the area in support of a very young leader, Timothy Kamau Kariuki, who has decided to stop complaining and present himself for the MP position,” Amisi said.
“I was attracted to his story of using a donkey to campaign. A story that resonates with my own history of my journey in politics,” he added.

PRM links with Linda Mwananchi
The move hints at Amisi’s links to the People’s Renaissance Movement, which had been earlier linked to the Linda Mwananchi faction of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), only for the movement to deny any association with the newly formed party.
Abigael Gikonyo, a prominent face of the Linda Mwananchi caravan, recently pushed back against attempts to link the Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna-led movement to the People’s Renaissance Movement (PRM) party.
Gikonyo’s remarks came in response to comments made by Sophia Mugure on Saturday, June 5, 2026, who is the PRM’s youth league leader and one of the co-founders of the “Niko Kadi” slogan, who had suggested that PRM would serve as the political vehicle that the Linda Mwananchi movement would use in the run-up to the 2027 General Election.
In a strongly worded rebuttal on Saturday, June 6, 2026, Gikonyo maintained that the People’s Renaissance Movement should be linked to Caleb Amisi and not the entire Linda Mwananchi movement. She argued that if the movement had indeed adopted the party as its preferred political outfit, all its principals would have publicly endorsed the decision by now.

Donkey campaigns
On May 25, 2026, Ol Kalou town was filled with excitement as Kamau made a dramatic entrance to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) offices, riding a donkey to submit his nomination certificate for the parliamentary by-election.
At 26 years old, Kamau is a Gen Z candidate representing the People’s Renaissance Movement (PRP/PM Party), and his unconventional arrival immediately drew attention from locals and the media.
The donkey ride was supported by a jubilant crowd of his followers who celebrated the moment with chants, songs, and shouts of encouragement.
Shouts were made high as the donkey trotted steadily through the streets, turning the submission of nomination papers into a lively public spectacle.
The IEBC had set May 25, 2026, as the official day for candidates to present their nomination papers, and Kamau’s arrival stood out among the hopefuls.
His choice of transport symbolised humility and a connection to ordinary citizens, contrasting with the polished convoys often associated with established politicians.
Kamau is one of several candidates contesting the Ol Kalou seat, which became vacant following the death of MP David Njuguna Kiaraho in March 2026.
Other notable contenders include Sammy Kamau Ngotho, nominated by the Democracy for the Citizens (DCP), and the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party candidate Samuel Muchina Nyaga.
