Bungoma governor Ken Lusaka dissolves Cabinet amid impeachment motions

Bungoma Governor Ken Lusaka has dissolved his cabinet following the presentation of an impeachment motion seeking removal of unspecified officers in his administration were presented to the County Assembly clerk on Wednesday, April 9, 2026.

In a statement shared on his official social media pages on Thursday, April 10, 2026, the governor described the move as a reorganization in line with Section 40 of the County Governments Act.

As a result, all members of the county executive committee, including the county attorney and county secretary, have been relieved of their duties with immediate effect.

“The Office of the Governor wishes to inform the public that, in the exercise of the constitutional mandate to ensure effective governance and service delivery, the Governor has undertaken a reorganization of the County Executive”

“Accordingly, subject to section 40(1)(a) of the County Government Act, all Members of the County Executive Committee, the County Attorney, and the County Secretary have been relieved of their duties with immediate effect”

Governor Lusaka indicated that the decision was made to facilitate the efficient functioning of the county assembly and to uphold the integrity of its institutions. Communication on future appointments or interim measures will be issued in due course, in accordance with the law.

The governor also acknowledged the contributions of the affected officers and reaffirmed his commitment to constitutional governance.

Looming impeachment

The dissolution comes a day after several unspecified impeachment motions were submitted to the County Assembly clerk.

The office of the clerk confirmed that the motions are currently undergoing procedural processing and will be presented to the Speaker and the House Business Committee for approval before being tabled before the House in line with Standing Orders and the law.
