‘BBI Season 2 is urgent can not wait’ – Moses Kuria calls on Ruto, Uhuru and Raila to initiate constitutional review
President William Ruto’s Economic Advisor Moses Kuria on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, called on President William Ruto, his predecessor Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to initiate another constitutional review process.
In a personal statement, Moses Kuria lauded the latest move by Ruto and his former boss to bury the hatchet and agree to consult on ways to address the current problems bedevilling the country including political animosity.
However, Kuria indicated that the country cannot solely depend on handshakes to address its problems. The former cabinet secretary explained that Ruto reached out to Raila to end the anti-government protests and now he is seeking Uhuru’s counsel to address issues affecting his administration.
While admitting that the move on both occasions was a show of statesmanship and patriotism, Kuria insisted that the country needed an urgent review of the Constitution to address the emerging issues.
In his statement, Kuria opined that the three leaders can pick up from where the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) failed.
“Firstly, we can no longer depend on handshakes and personal meetings to make us feel safe in our country. The frequent handshakes and artificial formations have vindicated President Kenyatta and Prime Minister Ralla on the BBI initiative,” Kuria’s lengthy statement read in part.
“They were right and we were wrong. I urge President Ruto, President Kenyatta and Prime Minister Odinga to close ranks and lead the nation in picking from where BBt flopped and give this country a Constitution that speaks to the emerging realities of our nation and our society. BB1 Season 2 is urgent and can not wait.”
Kuria on Mt Kenya’s future
At the same time, Kuria admitted that Rigathi Gachagua’s impeachment had raised political heat in the central region.
However, the former Gatundu North Member of Parliament explained that his ejection from office helped to raise a fundamental question regarding the future of the region.
Kuria detailed moving forward, the Mt Kenya region will need a strong political voice. While pushing for the regional political outfit, Kuria further admitted that ditching Jubilee was a mistake.
Nonetheless, Ruto’s Economic Advisor made it clear that Mt Kenya leaders would start lobbying to build another political outfit under the leadership of former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“Secondly Mt Kenya region, like all other regions deserves a strong political voice. It is our imaginable right. For all the good and bad lessons we have learnt, it was a mistake to leave the Jubilee Party. However, it is not too late. We will now embark of bringing all the political parties with a footing in the region together under the Jubilee Party. We did it in 2015 when we dissolved parties to form Jubilee. We will do it again. Jubilee under President Kenyatta as the Party Leader is the way to go. Character Cha Kazi and myself will devote all our energies to that endeavour,” Kuria announced.
