Back Yatani party, NEP leaders urge residents

Some leaders from Northern Kenya have urged their supporters to back the United Party of Independent Alliance (UPIA) allied to Treasury Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yatani.

Leaders who attended the unveiling of the party’s new headquarters in Nairobi’s Kileleshwa estate on Tuesday said the Northern Kenya region now has a homegrown political vehicle that they will use to negotiate for a share of the national goodies.

They said they had joined UPIA, formerly the Frontier Alliance Party (FAP) owing to experiences of past elections and regimes that marginalised their counties.

“We are very happy that we have a political party under the leadership of Northern Kenya. Over the years, the country has been looking at Northern Kenya as counties with swing votes.

But this time round, we said we must be at that high table where the decision are being made, we must be given opportunities at the national level,” said Senate deputy majority leader Fatuma Dullo.

“We are always running on a political party owned by other people. But thank God now we have our political party whose leadership is drawn from the North,” said Dullo.
