Azimio outlines principles that Raila’s running mate must possess
The Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance has on Wednesday, April 27, 2022, named a 7-member advisory panel that is tasked with picking Raila’s running mate ahead of the August 9th polls.
The Azimio Coalition’s Council secretary-general Junet Mohammed outlined core principles that will guide the panel during their selection.
The council also highlighted the thresholds that the panel’s nominee must meet.

“Eligible candidates must demonstrate, in word and deed, that nomination to the high office of Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya is a public trust to be exercised in a manner that; demonstrates respect for the people, brings honour to the nation and dignity to the office, promotes public confidence in the integrity of the office and demonstrates the value that nomination to the office is a responsibility to serve the people, rather than the power to rule them,” the statement read in part.
The Council further directed that eligible candidates for the coveted position must demonstrate principles of leadership and integrity.
The leadership and integrity principles that the nominee must demonstrate include; personal integrity in public and private life, in previous public service or private affairs, objectivity and impartiality in decision making, and in ensuring that decisions are not influenced by nepotism, favouritism, other improper motives or corrupt practices.
The candidate is further supposed to have demonstrated honesty in the execution of public duties and declaration of any personal interest that may conflict with public duties.
Raila’s running mate nominee must also have demonstrated accountability to the public for decisions and actions, and discipline and commitment in service to the people.
While adhering to the aforesaid principles, the 7-member panel is expected to submit the name of a suitable candidate on or before May 10, 2022.
