Alego Usonga MP Samuel Atandi has called on Kisumu residents to remain peaceful and focused on development as the Linda Mwananchi team prepares to visit the lakeside city on Sunday.

Speaking in Kisumu on April 23, 2026, at the airport, Atandi said his presence in the region was part of his broader mandate to engage citizens on development priorities and gather views to inform national budgeting.

He noted that he has recently toured several counties, including Turkana, Mandera, Mombasa and Kilifi, in a bid to listen to wananchi and align projects with their needs.

“I am here today in Kisumu to inform our people about some of the development projects that we have put in place that are going to transform the city. Part of my work is to listen to the people and get ideas on what to include in the budget,” he said.

As political activity intensifies, Atandi urged residents to uphold peace despite differing political views, while extending a cautious welcome to the visiting Linda Mwananchi team.

“We want to welcome our guests, but when you come to Kisumu, you must have an agenda for the people,” he said.

He warned the Linda Wananchi team against abusing ODM party leader Obura Odinga.

“If your intention is to abuse leaders or engage in politics that does not benefit residents, that will not be acceptable,” he said.

The MP also criticised Siaya Governor James Orengo, who is associated with the visiting team, accusing him of poor development performance in his county.

“A leader who has failed to deliver in his own county cannot come here to lecture the people of Kisumu,” Atandi said, urging residents to demand accountability from leaders.

At the same time, he reiterated his political cooperation with President William Ruto, describing their working relationship as firm and focused on delivering development to the region.

“Our cooperation with the President is strong and unshakable, and it is meant to ensure this region benefits from national development,” he said.

Atandi concluded by appealing for unity and restraint during the visit, emphasising that Kisumu should not be portrayed as chaotic but as a region committed to progress and peaceful engagement.
