By , November 19, 2025

Kasipul parliamentary aspirant Philip Aroko pleaded with the Independent Electoral and Boundary Commission (IEBC) to ensure the administration of a credible and peaceful electoral process in Kasipul during the upcoming by-election.

Speaking after being summoned by the commission on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, Aroko challenged the electoral umpire to move in and ensure a fair process in the volatile area that has so far witnessed cases of violent clashes and deaths.

“We beseech this commission to ensure everything that will give the people of Kasipul peace. We know the moment the right things are done by the able commission, then the Kasipul people will have their choice and peace will prevail,” he added.

“Let us have the elections in a manner that will reflect the best views of the people, and we ask for security in all polling stations when the voting happens,” he pleaded.

During the function, Aroko vouched for his conduct and that of his team, stating that he had carried out his campaigns in line with the rules of the game.

Maintaining peace

Alongside his competitor Boyd Were of the Orange Democratic Movement, the independent candidate demonstrated their commitment before the commission by signing the Political Decency and Peace Charter.

“I have been peaceful since I started my campaigns. I have communicated to my team that I will maintain peace and adhere to the code of conduct that we just signed,” he stated.

Were similarly promised to observe the stipulated guidelines and maintain peace in the remaining days.

“I wish to reaffirm my commitment to advocating for peace in Kasipul. I urge all candidates participating in the Kasipul by-election to uphold calm and promote unity. Let us maintain peace, embrace one another, and ensure a democratic process that reflects the best of our community.

Fined

During the function, the IEBC confirmed that the duo had been slapped with a Ksh.1 million fine each after violent clashes erupted during campaign activities.

The electoral body further cautioned that any candidate found guilty of an electoral offense similar to the events witnessed during the recent campaigns will be barred from taking part in the by-election.

“Mr. Philip Aroko, for the violation, is hereby ordered to pay a fine of Ksh1 million to the IEBC within 48 hours of these orders. Similarly, Mr Boyd Were is also ordered to pay Ksh1 million within the same period,” Mukhwana announced.
