Anaweza tuuza kwa shetani: Sifuna claims cash influence in Ruto’s foreign policy decisions
By Mustafa Juma, May 31, 2026Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has claimed that President William Ruto’s decisions on foreign policy and international engagements are influenced by financial incentives.
Speaking on Sunday, May 31, 2026, at AIC Kyanda Church ahead of the Linda Mwananchi rally in Machakos, Sifuna used strong language to criticise recent government decisions, claiming that Kenya’s leadership risks being swayed by monetary interests at the expense of national and global responsibility.
In his remarks, Sifuna claimed that the Head of State could be influenced through financial inducements, warning that such influence could compromise national decision-making.
“Bora Ruto apewe pesa, anaweza tuuza sisi wote kwa shetani mwenyewe,” Sifuna said.
The senator suggested that financial considerations may be shaping Kenya’s involvement in international operations, including security and humanitarian missions abroad.
Haiti police deployment
Sifuna also revisited Kenya’s controversial deployment of police officers to Haiti under a multinational security mission, claiming that the decision was driven by external funding arrangements rather than purely diplomatic or security considerations.
“Mnajua, wakati alipeleka polisi wetu Haiti, ilikuwa ni kwa sababu alipewa pesa,” he claimed.
Kenya deployed police officers to Haiti as part of a UN-backed multinational security support mission aimed at stabilising the Caribbean nation amid escalating gang violence.
Ebola quarantine facility in Laikipia
The senator further made claims linking global health response funding and Ebola containment efforts to external political influence, suggesting that financial contributions were shaping policy decisions beyond Kenya’s borders.
He claimed that international actors were prioritising their own citizens while influencing funding decisions for disease response strategies in Africa.
This follows revelations that the national government had quietly greenlit a United States proposal to construct a 50-bed emergency isolation unit at the Laikipia Air Base in Nanyuki.

The facility is intended to isolate and treat American citizens and aid workers exposed to the surging Bundibugyo strain of Ebola currently sweeping through the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
Sifuna suggested that Ruto should have declined the US request and instead advised them to redirect the funds to DRC to ensure that the country has the capacity to combat Ebola and ensure that it does not cross its borders.
“Sahi, amepewa pesa na Marekani. Marekani wenyewe wanasema tunajua wale watu ambao wako na ugonjwa wa Ebola ni watu wetu, they are American citizens, but they are not being allowed back into their own country, because the American people need to be protected from Ebola,” Sifuna said.
“Then there is this character somewhere, mwenye anapewa Ksh1.7 billion alafu anasema leta hao watu badala awaambie we as a global community, our best response ingekuwa tuambie watu wa Marekani hii pesa yote tafadhali pelekeeni raisi wa DRC Tshisekedi tuhakikishe wako na uwezo wa kuhakikisha huo ugonjwa hautoki kwa mipaka yao. Lakini yeye anasema wekeni watu kwa ndege mlete Laikipia. Sasa huo ni uamuzi wa aina gani? Ndo maana tunasema Ruto must go.”
Sifuna’s comments come amid growing concerns over plans to set up an Ebola quarantine facility in Laikipia for American citizens.
Laikipia Governor Joshua Irungu has, however, vehemently rejected the bilateral proposal.

Speaking to residents and the press in a video message shared via his official Facebook account, Governor Irungu stated that the county leadership and its residents are completely aligned against hosting the deadly virus on their soil.
The governor expressed deep concern over the local economic and social dynamics, pointing out that Nanyuki is a highly integrated hub.
“Sisi na kule kwenye inasemekana itaekwa tuko na uhusiano, yakwamba kuna watu wetu wanaingia kule, wanafanya biashara Nanyuki, na kwa hivo this is a very bad virus, na hatungetaka hata kidogo on behalf of the great people of Laikipia County,” he said.
