Amisi mocks dozens of senior govt officials attending fundraiser to buy school bus
By Ascah Mwango, September 21, 2025Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi has criticised senior government officials for attending a fundraiser to buy a bus for St. Innocent Jonyo Mixed Secondary School.
In a hard-hitting statement shared via his X account on Sunday, September 21, 2025, the legislator questioned why dozens of high-ranking leaders, including members of parliament, had to come together to raise money for just one school bus.
He argued that such matters should be handled through proper government planning and budgeting instead of relying on public contributions.
Amisi warned that this trend could drag the country back to the old “harambee era,” when leaders depended on fundraisers to provide basic services instead of focusing on sustainable development.
“Broad-based, where an entire government and half of parliament go to do harambee to buy just one bus for a school. The world needs to observe the 8th wonders of the world here in Kenya,” he said.

He noted that harambees should only be used to support vulnerable groups after the government has fulfilled its duty to plan and utilise available resources efficiently.
According to him, the presence of so many officials at the event was a misplaced priority and a sign of poor planning in government. He maintained that a nation can only grow when resources are managed responsibly, rather than through endless fundraising drives.
“No wonder they want to take CDF, to go back to the Moi Harambee era. A country develops through proper planning and utilisation of available resources. Harambees are meant to uplift the vulnerable after a proper development plan,” the lawmaker said.
