Alai slams Nelson Havi’s Westlands bid following DCP party move
By Mustafa Juma, February 4, 2026Nairobi Member of County Assembly (MCA) for Kileleshwa ward, Robert Alai, has cast doubts on the possibilities of former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) president Nelson Havi winning the Westlands constituency parliamentary seat during the upcoming 2027 general elections.
Taking to his official X account on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, Alai argued that winning the Westlands seat on former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) is delusional.
Alai further ridiculed Havi’s move, claiming that he was getting detached from reality.
“DCP to win Westlands? Delusional! See how the fool is detached from reality,” Alai stated.
Havi’s DCP move
Alai’s remarks come hours after Havi joined the DCP party as he positions himself to vie for the Westlands parliamentary seat.
Havi’s move comes weeks after he ditched the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA), which he used to seek the Westlands seat in the 2022 general elections.
In a statement posted on his X account on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, Gachagua, who is the DCP party leader, announced the move, describing the party as keen on attracting strong legal minds to strengthen its legislative representation and oversight agenda.
“DCP party requires great legal minds for Legislation, Representation, and Oversight,” Gachagua stated.
Gachagua welcomed Havi to the party, expressing support for his political ambitions.
“I am happy to welcome Nelson Havi, one of the greatest legal minds in the country, to walk with us in his quest to represent the people of Westlands constituency in the National Assembly,” he said.
Gachagua said DCP is positioning itself as a political home for professionals seeking leadership roles, adding that the party is focused on building a progressive and issue-driven movement.
“DCP is the home of progressive professionals who desire political leadership,” he added.
Havi’s allegiance to Gachagua
Havi had earlier declared his allegiance to Gachagua, stating that he would follow any political direction given by him.
Speaking during the funeral of Embakasi North MP James Gakuya’s mother in Murang’a County on Saturday, January 3, 2026, Havi unequivocally stated that during the run-up to the 2022 general election, Gachagua, then the deputy presidential candidate, and Gakuya, who served as the UDA coordinator in Nairobi, were the key figures giving political direction.
He said that while he was vying for the Westlands MP seat, they took instructions from the two leaders and will continue to do so going forward.
