Alai accuses Sifuna of being Gachagua’s agent to weaken ODM
Kileleshwa Member of County Assembly (MCA) Robert Alai has renewed his onslaught against Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, accusing him of working with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to weaken the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
In a lengthy statement on Saturday, September 13, 2025, Alai reprimanded the ODM Secretary General Sifuna, insisting that all his latest moves are aimed at weakening ODM’s position ahead of the 2027 polls.
According to the outspoken lawmaker, Sifuna’s actions would cost the party when they turn up on the negotiation table with President William Ruto in 2027.
“Sifuna is an agent of Gachagua to ensure that ODM’s position is weakened and left with the short end of the stick as the inevitable power-sharing agreement nears,” Alai’s statement read in part.

DP position slipping away
Robert Alai indicated that ODM was poised to nominate a deputy president for Ruto in the 2027 presidential election. However, he raised fears that the position could have slipped away, as the incumbent DP Kithure Kindiki had established himself as a formidable force to turn the Mt Kenya tide despite Gachagua’s influence.
“First ODM was to have a strong submission for Deputy President. That seems to have slipped away as Kindiki has built a credible profile to give President Ruto no reason to doubt him as a reliable running mate in 2027. How will ODM dethrone Kindiki from this position? How?” Alai posed.

Nairobi Governor
Further, Alai indicated that ODM will likely lose the Nairobi gubernatorial seat due to Sifuna’s failure to oversight Governor Johnson Sakaja.
He accused Sifuna of remaining mum when everyone was complaining about issues bedevilling Nairobi County.
“Again, ODM was to negotiate for the Nairobi Governor. Sakaja and Sifuna have teamed as the incompetent duo to ensure that ODM is now not a reliable party to govern Nairobi. When everyone has complained of Sakaja, Sifuna who has the primary responsibility of oversighting the Nairobi City County leadership, has gone quiet,” Alai wrote on his X page.

Robert Alai also questioned Sifuna’s dalliance with Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba and questioned why the party has not axed him as the secretary general.
Despite mounting calls on Sifuna to resign as ODM secretary general, the Nairobi senator has remained firm in his criticism of the Kenya Kwanza government, insisting that Ruto does not deserve a second term.
