Aladwa dares ODM rebels to quit
By Luke Oluoch, January 4, 2026Makadara Member of Parliament (MP) George Aladwa has dared a section of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) members discontented with the party’s direction to walk out and form their own party.
Speaking on Saturday, December 3, 2025, Aladwa downplayed the prevailing turmoil within the party occasioned by infighting among its senior members, adding that its most immediate objectives lie in advancing its political interests under the broad-based government.
“The most pressing issue is not about the internal issues of the ODM party. The challenge at hand is about the broad-based government and our direction heading to the 2027 polls,” he said.
Sticking with Ruto
“We have stated that we will not return to maandamano again. Our position is we are behind President William Ruto and the broad-based government. That is our position on the controversy, and let that be known that way,” he stated.
“To those who want to go out and start their own party, they have a right to that,” he stated.
The ODM Nairobi branch chair also waded into the dispute between ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna and party leader Oburu Oginga. He implored Sifuna to reach out to Oburu Oginga and iron out issues so they can speak with one accord.
“Our party leader, Oburu, and our secretary-general, Sifuna, are officials in the party. They know how issues of the party should be approached and addressed. They need to talk and should resolve their differences internally for the sake of unity,” he added.

His remarks follow his proposal that Winnie Odinga, the daughter of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, be nominated as one of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Deputy Party Leaders.
Aladwa explained that once Winnie is installed as a Nairobi County ODM delegate, he will use that opportunity to propose her nomination as one of the party’s deputy party leaders, bringing the total number of ODM deputy party leaders to four.
“Mimi nilikuwa nimependekeza hapo awali tukielekea NDC, kwa sababu Raila Odinga alikuwa delegate wa Nairobi, Winnie Odinga aingie hapo awe delegate wa Nairobi, na tupropose deputy party leaders wanne, Winnie akiwa mmoja wao,” Aladwa said.
