30 MPs strong: Ngunjiri Wambugu dares Gachagua to stop rewriting Jubilee’s strength
By Mustafa Juma, March 2, 2026Former Nyeri Town Member of Parliament Ngunjiri Wambugu has dismissed assertions that the Jubilee Party is politically diminished.
Taking to his official Facebook page on Sunday, March 1, 2026, Wambugu insisted that the outfit remains a formidable parliamentary force.
He said the party currently boasts 30 elected Members of Parliament and senators, in addition to nominated legislators, a strength he argues cannot be wished away by anyone.
The remarks appear to target former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, with Wambugu suggesting that Jubilee should not be equated to newly formed or rebranded political outfits, such as the former DP’s Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP).
“The Jubilee Party has 30 elected MPs and senators and nominated ones. Jofri wants to pretend we are starting off new like him,” Wambugu stated in a pointed rebuttal.

Jubilee leadership shake-up
Wambugu’s remarks come weeks after the Jubilee Party announced a major leadership reorganisation following a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting chaired by party leader and retired President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The changes marked a decisive shift as the party repositions itself ahead of the 2027 general election.
In the shake-up, Jeremiah Kioni, who was serving as secretary general, was moved to the newly created and influential role of deputy party leader (operations), effectively ending his tenure as SG while placing him at the centre of party coordination, grassroots mobilisation, and alliance-building.

The changes, approved by the NEC, are part of a broader strategy to strengthen Jubilee’s internal structures, restore discipline, and re-establish the party as a credible national alternative at a time when the cost of living, economic pressure, and governance concerns continue to dominate public discourse.
Jubilee’s commitment
As part of the resolutions, the Jubilee Party reaffirmed its commitment to unity, social justice, economic recovery, and institutional respect, positioning itself as a listening party focused on delivery rather than excuses.
“As the country looks toward 2027, the Jubilee Party reaffirms its commitment to unity, social justice, economic recovery, and leadership that listens to citizens, respects institutions, and delivers practical outcomes, not excuses,” the statement read.
Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, who also serves as the Jubilee Deputy Party Leader, will be the party’s presidential flag bearer during the 2027 General Elections.
