3 MCAs enter race for Murang’a Women Rep seat
By Luke Oluoch, September 13, 2025The jostling for the Murang’a Women Representative seat has started to shape up early, as three County assembly members expressed interest in the seat.
Kenyona ward MCA Liz Muthoni Mbugua, Grace City of Kenyanyaine ward and Flasia Chege are among the aspirants who have declared interest in the position, while their allegiance to Gachagua’s DCP outfit during a rally in Kenol on Saturday, September 13, 2025.
“I have talked to the people of Murang’a and they have promised to send me to parliament through the DCP party,” Grace City said during the meeting.
Meanwhile, while speaking at the function, Gachagua sought to inquire about the status of the seat currently held by Betty Maina, asking the residents to elect a new holder of the position from the group.
Vacant seat?
“Is the Women’s representative seat vacant ? he asked the residents “Is Mama wa county seat vacant or not? Then look for a person to occupy it here,” he stated.

Betty Maina is the current Women’s Representative for Murang’a County. She vied on a United Democratic Alliance ticket, receiving 68 per cent of the votes against her main opponent, Waithira Muithirania of the Jubilee Party.
She garnered 278,443 votes, beating media personality Everlyne Waithera Muithirania of the Jubilee party, who secured 111,163 votes.
Meanwhile, the party on Saturday, September 13, 2025, posted a picture of Mercy Nungari, an aspirant seeking to contest the DCP party ticket in the Kiambu Women representative race.
Kiambu race
The Kiambu seat is occupied by Anne Wamuratha, a close ally of President William Ruto, who ditched Gachagua for the president.
The inspirational speaker and counsellor officially joined Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party in January 2022 and went on to clinch the seat, trouncing gospel artiste Loise Kim, former Kiambu Deputy governor Joyce Ngugi, and Emma Wangari, among others.
