‘I am persuaded my vision will propel Africa to an era of sustainable peace’ – Raila
Raila Odinga has continued to push for his bid to win the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship as he further detailed his broad vision for the continent.
On Saturday, November 9, Raila met with development partners for Africa, an event that was also attended by the Prime Cabinet Secretary, Musalia Mudavadi, and the former Premier used it to advance his bid for the AUC post.
He also said that he believes he can help Africa achieve peace, integration, and prosperity.
“I recognize the important role that multilateral relationships play in achieving our objectives as enshrined in Agenda 2063.
“I am persuaded that my vision and priorities will propel Africa to a new era of sustainable peace, continental integration, shared prosperity, and meaningful partnerships. Excellencies, I will be available. My doors will be open. Let us work together for Africa’s prosperity for the global good,” Raila said during the event held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Multilateral relationships
Raila said that there is a need for Africa to step up and be an integral partner in enhancing the effectiveness and objectives of multilateral institutions.
“In recognition of the role multilateral relationships play in achieving the AU Agenda 2063, I engaged with Partners for African Development in Addis Ababa. The AU Agenda 2063 is an ambitious and forward-thinking regional framework championing Africa’s unity and continental integration.
“In today’s globalized world, Africa cannot afford to be a bystander but must be an integral partner to enhance the effectiveness and objectives of multilateral institutions. If I get the opportunity to lead the AU Commission, I will endeavor to strengthen the organization’s collaboration with partners for our mutual benefit,” Raila said, as quoted by a statement on his X handle.
To win the AUC post, the former Lang’ata Member of Parliament (MP) will need 66 per cent of the votes, which is equivalent to 32 countries voting in his support.
