Reigning champions Gor Mahia will continue their hunt to move to the top of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League table when they take on KCB at Dandora Stadium today.

The K’Ogalo versus Bankers clash is one of nine top-flight matches lined up today across the country.

Currently, KCB tops the 18-team table with 13 points from five matches, while Gor Mahia sits seventh with six points, having played three fewer matches.

Good form

In the last six encounters between Gor Mahia and KCB, the champions hold a better record, with two wins, three draws, and one loss.

Last season, their first-round meeting ended in a 1-1 draw, while the reverse fixture finished in a goalless stalemate.

The last time KCB beat Gor Mahia was in the 2022 campaign, with a 1-0 result in the first meeting, while the second-round fixture ended in a 0-0 draw.

In 2021, Gor Mahia completed a double over the Bankers, winning 2-1 in the first match and 1-0 in the second.

Gor Mahia will need to be at their best, as KCB is among the five teams yet to lose a match this season. The Bankers, under coach Patrick Odhiambo, have managed four wins and one draw.

Confident KCB

“We know we are facing the champions. They have started the season well, winning two matches, but we won’t dwell on their performances. Instead, we’ll focus on our game, maintain our style, and are confident of securing a win,” Odhiambo told People Sport.

Meanwhile, Gor Mahia coach Leonardo Martins Neiva believes the Bankers will provide a tough test for his side.

“KCB is at the top of the log, not by mistake, but because they deserve to be there. So, I anticipate a difficult game from them. We are taking it one game at a time, step by step, and hope to beat them,” stated the Brazilian.

After being held to a 1-1 draw by Kariobangi Sharks, AFC Leopards will return to action against Murang’a Seal.

AFC Leopards falters

Ingwe has been inconsistent, and their draw against Sharks ended their two-match winning streak.

Last season, the two sides met three times—twice in the league and once in the domestic FKF Cup. In the Cup, Ingwe won 1-0, while in the league, the first-round meeting ended 1-1 before Ingwe recovered to beat the then-promoted side 1-0.

Meanwhile, Tusker will hope to make it two wins out of two when they face off against bogey side Ulinzi Stars.

The Brewers, under interim coach Charles Okere, returned to winning ways with a 3-1 victory against FC Talanta.

In another match, Shabana and Sofapaka will both be seeking their first win when they face off at Gusii Stadium.
