Kenyan athletes made a remarkable impression at the World Championships held in Budapest, securing a total of 10 medals and clinching the fifth position on the final medal tally.

Kenya’s three Gold medals were achieved by female athletes. Faith Kipyegon, establishing herself as a legendary figure in distance running, accomplished a historic 1500m/5000m double victory at the championships.

Double in World Championship

Following her third world 1500m title earlier in the week, Kipyegon showcased her prowess once more by seizing the gold in the 5,000m event.

Joining the list of gold medalists was Mary Moraa, who displayed exceptional composure to claim victory in the 800m final race, surpassing formidable competitors including Keely Hodgkinson, defending champion Athing Mu, Habitam Alemu, and Halimah Nakaayi.

World Championship silver medals

Kenya’s silver medals were secured by the talented Emmanuel Wanyonyi and Daniel Simiu, along with Beatrice Chepkoech in the 3000m Steeplechase.

Furthermore, Kenya boasted four bronze medalists, including Faith Cherotich in the 3000m Steeplechase, Beatrice Chebet in the 5000m, Jakob Krop in the 5000m, and Abraham Kibiwott in the 3000m Steeplechase.

Remarkably, Kenya’s medal count this year matched their performance in Oregon in 2022, but they secured one additional gold medal this time.

In the placing, Kenya ranks third, trailing the United States and Jamaica with 112 points, while the leaders have 277 and 139 points, respectively. Kenya is the highest-ranked team in Africa in the championships.
