Harambee Stars head coach Engin Firat has explained why his players are not afraid of facing Cameroon in an upcoming African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier.
After picking up four points following a goalless draw against Zimbabwe in Kampala, Uganda, on Friday, September 6, 2024, and a 2-1 win over Namibia in Johannesburg on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, Kenya will now train their eyes on the Indomitable Lions.
The former AFCON winners will face Harambee Stars in October, and Kenya’s morale should be boosted by how they performed in the first two qualifiers in Group J.
Firat pointed out why his Harambee Stars players should not be afraid of the Central Africans, who are seen as the heavyweights of the group.
“Do they (Cameroon) think we are easy? Cameroon should be thinking about how they want to crack us. I’m not afraid of Cameroon; you saw how the boys played before against the Ivory Coast, Russia, and Qatar.
“If we have the boys together, the boys are very united and believe in each other. The boys are unbeaten this year; they won a trophy out of the country for the first time,” Firat said after the win over Namibia, as quoted by a local publication.
Cameroon, five times AFCON winners, are second in the group that is led by Kenya, and that means the clash in October will be very crucial as teams eye tickets for the continental showpiece that will be held in Morocco next year.
