Governor Sonko impostor freed on Sh300,000 bond

An impostor who reportedly conned members of the public by using pseudo social media accounts of Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko was yesterday arraigned.

Geoffrey Mandela Kengere appeared before Milimani Chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku and denied the charges of conspiracy to defraud, forgery and attempting to defraud.

The prosecution alleges that on or about October 31, at unknown place in Kenya, Mandela jointly with others not before the court by deceit and fraudulent means conspired to defraud Mercy Sheila Nekesa of Sh80,000 purporting that he was able to assist the complainant get an inter-county transfer from Lamu county to Nairobi county, a fact he knew to be false.

Transfer letter

He faced another charge that on October 29 with intent to deceive, defraud and without lawful authority forged a transfer letter purporting to be a genuine transfer letter issued by Public Service Board of Nairobi county and signed by  Meshack Guto secretary to Nairobi county government. 

After denying the charges, Mandela urged the court to release him on lenient bail terms saying he is not a flight risk. 

He was released on a cash bail of Sh100,000 or a bond of Sh300,000. 

The case will be heard on December 12.
