Gor Mahia maintained their unbeaten start in the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League following a resounding 3-0 victory against Posta Rangers at Machakos Stadium at the weekend.

K’Ogalo, the record Kenyan champions with 21 titles, took the lead in the 16th minute when youngster Byrson Wangai scored from close range. Austin Odhiambo, last season’s Most Valuable Player (MVP), doubled K’Ogalo’s lead in the 38th minute, giving them a 2-0 lead at half-time.

Upon resumption, Gor Mahia continued to attack the Mailmen, who had no answers to their superb display.

It was no surprise when Congolese import Gedeon Bendeka struck home the third goal in the 87th minute.

The win marked K’Ogalo’s second victory this campaign, having kicked off with a 4-0 thrashing of promoted side Mathare United.
K’Ogalo has now scored seven goals in two matches and is yet to concede.

Gor Mahia coach Leonardo Martins Neiva praised his charges for another win but admitted they faced difficulties breaking down a resilient Posta side.

“It was a tough game; even though we won 3-0, it was not an easy task because Posta proved to be a difficult side. We had to be patient to get the opening goal, but once we scored, we somehow took control of the game, which was the reason we won,” conveyed the Brazilian tactician.

The win pushed Gor Mahia to seventh on the 18-team league table with six points, though they have played three fewer matches than the leading pack. Meanwhile, the defeat saw Posta drop to 11th with four points.

In other matches, KCB cemented their top spot with a resounding 4-1 win against Kakamega Homeboyz.

Despite taking an early lead, Homeboyz failed to protect it as the Bankers rallied to score four goals.

The defeat led to the sacking of Homeboyz coach Ken Kenyatta, with club chairman Cleophas Shimanyula confirming that an interim technical bench would be hired at the start of the week to replace the underperforming Kenyatta.

In an early kick-off fixture, Sofapaka, under Robert Matano, remained winless in the top flight after a 1-1 draw against Nairobi City Stars.

Batoto ba Mungu took the lead through Jack Onyanga in the 30th minute, but a defensive lapse allowed Simba wa Nairobi to level matters courtesy of Japanese forward Yuto Kuseba in the 56th minute.

Elsewhere, a second-half strike from Joseph Okwenda enabled Mara Sugar to defeat Shabana 1-0 and move to third on the log with 10 points. Okwenda rifled home the all-important goal in the 83rd minute, silencing Shabana’s fans, who had thronged Awendo Green Stadium for the matchday five fixture.

Like Sofapaka, Kisii-based Tore Bobe remain winless after their opening three matches, managing one draw and two defeats, leaving them in 13th on the table.

On Sunday, AFC Leopards’ winning run was halted after they settled for a 1-1 draw against Kariobangi Sharks. Heading into the fixture, Ingwe had won their last two matches—1-0 against Bidco United and 2-1 against Nairobi City Stars.

It was Sharks who drew first blood through Frederic Alushula in the 20th minute, but Ingwe levelled matters five minutes later courtesy of Victor Omune.

In the 70th minute, Sharks were reduced to 10 men when Alushula was shown a straight red card, but Ingwe failed to capitalize on their numerical advantage, and the game ended all square.

In another match, Tusker bounced back to winning ways after beating FC Talanta 3-1.

The Brewers grabbed their goals through Thomas Teka and George Kaddu, who hit a brace, while Bernard Odhiambo scored for Talanta.
