DP Gachagua meets Kiambu MCAs at his Karen residence

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Saturday, September 21, 2024, met the Kiambu Members of County Assembly (MCAs) at his Karen residence.

In a statement shared via his official X handle, Gachagua noted that the purpose of the meeting was to get updates on the progress of the Alcoholic Drinks Control Bill, 2024 passed this month

“This afternoon, Members of the County Assembly of Kiambu, led by Speaker Charles Thiong’o, called on me at the Official Residence in Karen, Nairobi, to update me on the progress of the Alcoholic Drinks Control Bill, 2024, which they passed this month,” he wrote.

The DP additionally congratulated the MCAs saying the law will provide a legal foundation and pillar in the fight against illicit brews in Kiambu County.

“Upon enactment, the law will provide a legal foundation and pillar in a successful war against illicit brews in Kiambu County as we work towards sobering our Nation for development. Congratulations to the County Assembly on this milestone,” the DP added.

Gachagua who has been at the forefront of the fight against illicit brews in the country recently assured the country that the stringent measures rolled out to curb the issue are bearing fruits.

The DP additionally underscored that the measures have seen the reintegration of broken families and the reformation of addicted youth.

He also praised the Kiambu and Murang’a National Government administration officers for their efforts in curbing alcoholism.

“The families that had broken because of alcoholism have reintegrated and youths affected by the illicit brews and drugs abuse have reformed. Young men and women are marrying and starting families. However, we must continue with that fight,” he insisted.

Adding;

“We commend the Administration Officers in Kiambu and Murang’a counties for the work they have done in eradicating the illicit brews and drug abuse. Were it not for the intervention of the President and the Government, the population in this region was heading to extinction.”
