Rigathi Gachagua on Friday, November 1, 2024, edited out his previous title of Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya following the swearing-in of his successor Abraham Kithure Kindiki.

Gachagua has now edited his social media bios to read ‘Husband. Father. Kenyan’ after he was impeached following a vote taken in the Senate on October 17, 2024, on a motion by the National Assembly to have him vacate office.

This comes after Gachagua posted a photo with his spouse Dorcas Rigathi and two sons Kevin and Keith sitting on a lawn in his Mathira home, Nyeri County.

“The smell of fresh grass, (and) sounds of chirping birds is what a happy family needs. I will remain forever grateful to God, for giving me a loving and supportive family. We are happy to be home, where I was born and brought up,” Gachagua said in a statement.

The shift came in after a three-judge bench on Thursday, October 31, 2024, dealt Gachagua the final blow when it revoked a previous court order which had put on hold the swearing-in of Kindiki as the country’s new second in command.

While Gachagua is yet to reveal his next course of action, his successor Kindiki moved quickly as well to edit his bio on social media from ‘Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration, Kenya’ to ‘Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya.’

With more than 893,000 followers on X and hundreds of thousands more across other social media platforms, Gachagua seems to have accepted the hand dealt to him by fate.

Since his swearing-in as the third deputy president of Kenya under the 2010 Constitution, Kindiki had gained an additional 2,700 followers on X from 128,700 at 12:05 pm to 131,600 followers at 5:30 pm on November 1, 2024.

Kindiki shot into the public limelight after winning the Tharaka-Nithi senatorial seat in 2013. He would later on be re-elected and become the deputy speaker of the Senate.

Kindiki is also an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, with legal experience spanning over 24 years. As an advocate, he has consulted for international organizations including the World Trade Organization (WTO), the African Union (AU), the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), the United Nations (UN) and UN specialized agencies such as the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and practised as Defence Counsel at the International Criminal Court (ICC) at The Hague.
