Exactly seven days after the impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was discharged from Karen Hospital and raised fears over his life, making it clear that if anything happens to him President William Ruto should be held responsible, he has now taken a softer stance asking Kenyans to pray for the Head of State
Speaking after attending a church service in Kiambu County on Sunday, October 27, 2024, Gachagua appealed to all believers to offer their prayers to Ruto because of the herculean task ahead.
The embattled political premier who was ousted from office, stated that Ruto’s administration had subjected the citizens to various economic adversities.
Gachagua highlighted the issue of taxation which he argued had burdened the normal citizens.
Besides the new tax policies, Gachagua added that the health sector was crumbling and needed quick intervention to save the lives of Kenyans at risk.
With the daunting task ahead, Gachagua noted that Ruto requires wisdom to get Kenyans out of their current tribulations. He thus appealed to believers to pray for him.
“We want to ask the people of Kenya to remain peaceful and we want to ask the people of Kenya to pray for our President William Ruto to give him wisdom to navigate the challenges affecting the Kenyan people.
“Our people are feeling helpless because of economic adversities, because of over-taxation, because of failing health systems and the President has a big job to do,” Gachagua stated.
“We want to ask prayers for him for God to give him wisdom so that the people of Kenya can get some relief as they go about their businesses,” he added.
Calls for peace
Gachagua further called for peace despite the political process that saw him ejected from his position. He made it clear that his ouster should not be used to disrupt peaceful co-existence in the country.
The impeached Deputy President is currently engaged in a legal battle with the National Assembly over his ouster.
After raising preliminary objections regarding the three-judge bench empanelment, the hearing is expected to get underway this coming week.
Through a battery of lawyers, Gachagua is challenging the manner in which the impeachment was carried out without being an opportunity to be heard.
He is expected to argue his case out before the judges make the final decision.
