Members of the County Assembly yesterday threatened to paralyse operations across all county assemblies if Della Ward Representatives Yussuf Hussein Ahmed is not found within the next 14 days.

In a statement, the County Assemblies Forum (CAF) express concern over the whereabouts of the missing MCA close to two months since he went missing, saying it depicted a trend where the safety and security of elected leaders was increasingly coming under threat.

“The County Assemblies Forum (CAF) is gravely concerned about the security and safety of our MCAs, underscored by the recent and deeply troubling abduction of a Wajir MCA, who has been missing for 48 days now. This incident has created a climate of fear among county representatives, with no clear actions taken to ensure his safe return,” read the statement.

Multiple appeals
It went on; “Despite our outreach to IG and multiple appeals to authorities, there has been no action. This is not an isolated incident, MCAs across the country have faced threats, physical attacks and assaults, further eroding trust in the government’s institutions commitment to safeguard the rights of Kenya.

The silence of the government and lack of intervention thus far raises serious concerns about the accountability and security measures afforded to our public servants.”

The MCAs complained that despite raising their concerns with Inspector-General of Police Douglas Kanja, no action has been taken so far.

“CAF calls upon law enforcement agencies to initiate a thorough and immediate investigation into this case and to hold those responsible for his disappearance accountable. The role of MCAs is fundamental in representing the voices and aspirations of the people, and any attempt to hinder their duties through acts of intimidation or abduction is a direct attack on democracy itself,” read the statement.

Recently, the mystery surrounding Ahmed’s disappearance deepened after it emerged that after DNA samples a body discovered was not his.

Ahmed disappeared on September 13 after reportedly being abducted in Nairobi by unknown persons. His family claimed that the MCA had been summoned by the Wajir County Security and Intelligence Committee before his abduction. However, Wajir County Commissioner Karuku Ngumo, who chairs the committee, denied this claim.
