Olympic champion Faith Kipyegon has revealed her plans for the holiday after she ends this season’s races with the highly decorated Athlos event on September 26, 2024, in New York.

Speaking after winning her fifth trophy of the Diamond League women’s 1500m race in Brussels on Saturday, September 14, 2024, Kipyegon highlighted that she had been lucky in this season’s athletic events and would want to catch a break to enjoy time with her daughter and husband.

Hii ni mara yangu ya tano kuwin trophy ya Diamond League, na mimi nafurahi sana kuwin for the fifth time siyo kitu rahisi; kuna wanariadha chipukizi wanakuja na bado uko huko kuwin, so yeah, it is a really good motivation to win,” Kipyegon stated. (This is my fifth Diamond League trophy, so I’m happy to win as it was not easy given that there are younger upcoming athletes.)

Adding: “Sijamaliza season, bado niko na one more race in New York- Athlos, so bado niko huko and I hope to finish my season there na kuenda holiday. Nataka kuenda ku rest, kukaa na mtoto wangu at least nimpe time, familia yangu, my husband naye at least tukuwe na a good time.” (I have yet to complete this season as I have a pending race in New York- Athlos. After that is done, I would like to go on a vacation to rest and spend time with my daughter and husband.)

(They have barely had time with me because I’m always departing the country for competitions and coming back shortly before flying out again; so hopefully, we’ll have a good time with my husband and daughter.)

Kipyegon’s season finale

Kipyegon’s season finale will be New York’s Athlos event, which is a women-only athletic event that will feature 100m, 100m hurdles, 200m, 400m, 800m, and 1,500m, where Kipyegon is the undisputed queen.

The first of its kind, Athlos is set to attract one of the highest prize sums in the athletics industry.

According to Athlos founder, who is also tennis star Serena Williams’s husband and a co-founder of Reddit, Alex Ohanian, winners will pocket up to Ksh7.7 million, second-placed athletes will pocket Ksh3.2 million, and third-placed athletes will get Ksh1.2 million.

Additionally, the fourth will get Ksh1 million, the fifth will earn Ksh645,000, and the sixth will get Ksh322,000.
