Deputy President William Ruto has been forced to tender an apology to the Democratic Republic of Congo after a remark he made during a Nyeri rally did not augur well with DRC diplomats and a section of netizens.
Ruto was on the receiving end after he alluded that the populous nation has no cows and imports its milk from European and Asian countries.
Ruto, who was addressing dairy farmers in Nyeri county, promised that his administration will ensure it capitalizes on the dairy demands in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
In a statement by his Communications Director, Hussein Mohammed, the DP stated that he is a champion of economic empowerment and has continually illustrated to Kenyan farmers the market linkage opportunities globally.
The statement further explained that the DP’s remark was informal and that he purposed to emphasize UDA’s plan to increase productivity in the dairy and other agricultural sectors.
“Today he has clarified as follows (My speech was informal, and my use of certain effects was purely to underscore the magnitude of the opportunity and urgency of the moment to a local audience. It was not intended to be disrespectful in any way),” the statement read in part.
“I regret any misunderstanding that may have arisen on account of my speech, and take this opportunity to assure the government and people of the DRC of my profound admiration and high regard,” the statement further quoted DP Ruto.
