Hours after Harun Aydin, the Turkish man claimed to be an investor, was deported, Deputy President William Ruto has broken his silence.
Taking to his Twitter handle to comment on the incident, the DP said he has talked to Aydin and apologized to him over the incident on behalf of the Kenyan Government.
He confirmed the Turkish man is currently in his home country further revealing that he was tortured before being asked to fly out of the country.
The DP condemned the incident terming it political pettiness and a big shame to the country.
“Just talked and apologized on behalf of GoK to Aydin Harun who has landed in Turkey after he was politically arrested, tortured and falsely profiled as a ‘terrorist’ but later quietly asked to fly out after buying his own ticket to avoid ashaming those involved in the evil scheme,” he said.
The DP further said the incident is going to cause Kenya economically since international investors will contemplate keeping away from the Kenyan market.
“Political pettiness is expensive and dangerous. It will kill businesses, investments and ultimately our economy. We are shamelessly eroding our international investment standing and destroying our stature as a friendly and welcoming nation. Shame,” he divulged.
Aydin was reportedly scheduled for a court appearance on Monday, August 9, but his lawyers led by Senior Counsel Ahmednasir Abdullahi and lawyer Cliff Ombeta announced to the press that he had been deported.
The two lawyers had presented themselves at Kahawa Law Courts where they expected Aydin to be arraigned.
