Denmark staged a stellar chase against hosts Kenya yesterday to stun the home team by four wickets in the 2027 Cricket World Cup ICC Challenge League Qualifiers played at Nairobi Gymkhana.

The home team had won the toss and elected to bat, managing a total of 268 runs for the loss of six wickets in their allotted overs. Kenya’s top run-getters in the opening innings included skipper Rakep Patel, who scored 85 runs off 70 balls, batting at number six, with nine boundaries and one six to his credit.

Patel was assisted by opener Pushkar Sharma, who made 60 runs off 75 balls, and Sachin Bhudia, who scored 54 runs off 54 balls on a cloudy afternoon. However, upon resumption, the Danes had other ideas and relied on patience and mastery from their later-order batters.

They managed to surpass the target, finishing with 272-6 with three balls to spare at the end of their innings. Zameer Khan had an impressive innings, scoring 75 runs off 83 balls, which included eight boundaries while batting at number four.

Captain Hamid Shah contributed 51 runs off 77 balls, hitting six boundaries. Indeed, the Danes, who lost their opener last Friday by six wickets against Papua New Guinea, found good form in the lower order when it mattered, with Surya Anand scoring 43 runs off 44 balls and Taranjit Bharaj adding 35 runs off 44 balls to support the chase
