DCI sleuths thwart ATM heist in Ruiru

Police in Ruiru thwarted a Barclays Bank ATM heist on Tuesday night and arrested four suspects.

In the operation, the police also confiscated a mobile phone, a nylon sack, and a motorbike.

The suspects intended to load stolen cash in the sack and flee using the motorcycle.

According to a tweet by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the suspects were nabbed by DCI detectives based in Ruiru.

“Four suspects were last night arrested by DCI Kenya Ruiru detectives after their attempt to steal from Barclays Bank ATM at Ruiru was neutralized. A mobile phone they were using to make contact to a source,” said DCI.

The four were 37-year-old Hillary Ng’eno, 31-yr-old Jared Nyang’au, 34-yr-old Douglas Momanyi, and 43-year-old Jacob Barasa.

Hillary Ng’eno and Jared Nyang’au are staff from KK Security and G4S security companies respectively, according to the DCI.

Later on Wednesday, the DCI is expected to give a report on the arrests.

The suspects await to be arraigned in court.
