CS Mbadi shakes up anti-money laundering advisory board with fresh appointments

Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has announced the appointments of two individuals in various capacities at the Treasury including one at the Anti-Money Laundering Advisory Board.

In a gazette notice on Friday, October 18, 2024, Mbadi appointed Lorian Mona to join the advisory board of the Anti-Money Laundering.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 49 of the Proceeds of Crime and Anti-Money Laundering Act, the Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury and Economic Planning reappoints Lorian Mona Okongo to be a member of the Anti-Money Laundering Advisory Board, for a period of three years, with effect from October 18, 2024,” the gazette notice read.

Mbadi also appointed Florence Chemtai to be a member of the Kenya Trade Network Agency Board, for a period of three years, with effect from October 18, 2024.

Cabinet secretaries make appointments

The other appointments made are Elijah Karitu Nguyo to the board of directors of the Kenya Animal Genetics Resource Centre for a period of three years, with effect from October 18, 2024, by the Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture Andrew Karanja.

Water CS Eric Mugaa also appointed Irene Njoki Maina to be a member of the Tana Water Works Development Agency, for three years, with effect from October 4, 2024, noting that the appointment of Pauline Wanjira Maina is revoked.

Similarly, EAC CS Askul Moe appointed Stephen Lekupe to be a member of the Board of Directors of the Ewaso Ngiro North Development Authority, for two years, with effect from October 18, 2024.

CJ Koome

Additionally, Chief Justice Martha Koome also appointed Sheila Obiayo to be a member of the Employment and Labour Relations Committee, for a period of five years, with immediate effect.

Koome revoked the earlier appointment of Yvonne Adhiambo Obonyo.

In the same gazette notice, President William Ruto also appointed Paul Wachana to be the Chairperson of the Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis (KIPPRA), for three years, with effect from October 18, 2024.

Wachana comes from the United States International University (USIU) to head the board which has 12 other members.

Previously, the university professor served in various capacities at the Presbyterian University of Eastern Africa, the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) and the Portland State University in the United States.

‘’I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint— Paul Wachana (Prof.) to be the Chairperson of the Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis (KIPPRA), for a period of three years, with effect from October 18, 2024,” the notice read.
