Teachers and students have been directed to avoid shaking hands and unnecessary body contact to prevent and control the spread of coronavirus.
Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha and the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) have also directed that both the students and teachers should keep their surroundings, including offices clean and must regularly wash their hands.
The CS, in a circular to school directors, said learners were expected to wash their hands with soap, observe hygiene in schools and at home and most importantly avoid unnecessary shaking of hands and body contact.
“Given the COVID -19 outbreak and its impact on the people and health, it is important that all learning institutions in the country take appropriate measures for prevention and response to mitigate the Public health Impact in the event of an outbreak,” he said.
Magoha said in the event the symptoms were detected, learners should be referred to a specialised health provider promptly.
Heads of learning institutions across the country are asked to liaise with the nearest public health offices for proper information on the COVID-19 disease.
The content of the circular, addressed to directors of education, is expected to be passed to all heads of learning institutions.
Control measures
The TSC Director of Administrative Services Ibrahim Mumin said the staff should take a deliberate effort in the prevention and control of the disease.
But even as the government continues to take measures to prevent the spread of the disease, concerns have been raised about the Kenya Airways flight to Rome Italy.
On Tuesday, Kenya Airways flight KQ128 left Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino Airport and landed at the JKIA at around 7pm. This was the same day Italy was on a lockdown over the deadly virus.
